I’ve been to an all-inclusive trip once, so far. In Arguineguin, Gran Canara, more than 10 years ago. Very convenient and comfortable. But there are many improvements that can be made to better support the local people. For example, like you point out, that resorts buy only local food and hire local staff. That would be a good start!

Good points to consider when making an all-inclusive trip, LC. I haven’t done one in ages, other than the cruises I’ve been on…but even then you have to pay for excursions, alcohol, etc. We’re in the same boat with you. After a vacation we always need to come home and take a vacation!

Neckermann I’ve actually never heard of Gattina (surprisingly enough) – sounds great though, but Thomas Cook is well known over here too of course!!!!

You reminded me of an old dream of ours: to do a long journey by train in several places in Europe…. ahhh…

Thanks for all your comments ! I always travel with Neckermann, probably you know them too or with Thomas Cook, everything very well organized the hotels impeccable, sightseeing tours too, quality /price excellent. Only when I go to my friends in England I I do my own bookings, but there is no surprise because I take the train.
