Carnival in the U.S. Virgin Islands

Spring means great weather and Carnival in the Virgin Islands. Like most Caribbean Islands, carnival is a huge celebration. Expect many choices in entertainment and activities, for adults and for children. Try out Caribbean food with your favorite beverage as the kids ride amusement rides.

Cherry Blossoms in Washington D.C.

Through March and the beginning of April, the nation’s capital is in bloom. Visit to see the gorgeous cherry trees in blossom. The best thing about the cherry blossoms is that they are free for everyone to enjoy. While you are there, hop on a bus or trolley for a guided tour. You can also take a river cruise on the Potomac.

If you want a little exercise, rent a bicycle or take a walking tour.

Tulip Love in Holland

Tulips come into their glory in spring. You can take Delta flights to Holland from mid April to mid May to see the country’s tulips and enjoy their tulip festival – or even the Bollenstreek Flower Parade. If you do not want to travel overseas or do not have the budget for it, no need to worry. The town of Holland, Michigan also puts on a tulip festival each year. You will find people dressed in traditional Dutch clothing and experience concerts, parades and more.

Remember the Alamo

This historic mission is located in San Antonio, Texas. Temperatures can get suffocating, hot and muggy during the summer there, so you will have a more enjoyable experience by visiting in the spring.

After you have visited the Alamo and taken the standard, smiling tourist photos and bought a few postcards, wander down to the city’s famous River Walk. – It isn’t far away. There is so much stuff to do in the festive area. You can easily spend days there without a moment’s boredom. Eat at one of the many restaurants along the walk, have a drink at one of the bars, shop for gifts at one of the boutiques or take a boat ride.

In addition to the River Walk, visit the San Antonio zoo and Seaworld San Antonio.

Visit Europe

If you plan well in advance, you can find good airfare before the airlines raise rates for summer travel. There are parts of Europe that are exceptionally beautiful in the spring – these include France and southern Germany.

Temperatures are still crisp in March and April, but flowers will be blooming and the lush green countryside is something you won’t want to miss. Tour vineyards and sample some wine and local cuisine, and visit a castle or two on the way.

All in a good, relaxed pace making you more relaxed than ever on your vacation. No press, no stress to get anywhere before the crowds. Just you and the genuine joy of exploring something new.

#1: Cook Dinner for Her

If your wife’s a housewife who usually spends the time in the kitchen cooking for the family, then why not surprise her by preparing a sumptuous meal this Valentine’s day? She will love you for taking out the time and put in the effort to cook for her.

However, do make sure you find a good recipe to work with if you want to her to fall in love with what you cook. Once you’re done with the cooking you can make the surprise even more surprising by setting up a beautiful candlelight dinner right at in the living room!

If you don’t think you’re good with bare hands then you can always buy oils along with massagers at a lifestyle store near you. Also, don’t forget to create the perfect ambience if you truly want her to enjoy the experience. Put on some slow, romantic music and make sure your room is dimly lit to make it more relaxing.

We all know that flowers will not last forever, but they still make up to be one of the most romantic gifts that you can give your wife on Valentine’s Day. Yes, you read right: the midnight sun. The sun don’t really set at this time of the year in Sweden. It never get really dark. That is: if it’s not raining, which it use to do. The weather almost always is very shifting at Midsummer, making the outdoors activities more exciting – you never know if you’re going to be soaking wet or not!

It’s also a very romantic evening, when you’re supposed to find your love, so if you want to catch a Swedish girl: come to Sweden at Midsummer…

The Japanese Cherry tree’s even have a special day called The Cherry Blossoms Day, which use to be in the end of April when the tree’s are supposed to be in full bloom. So even this year, even though my photos are from another year actually.

I succeeded to catch a double bee in one photo: a bumblebee and an ordinary bee in the same flower getting themselves some nectar.

We had a nice walk around the park – which is dated back to the second half of the 17th century. You can see a glimpse of the Ulriksdal Palace in the background.

There were something with this cut view of the old door, that did catch my photo eye at once. It was not as interesting as the double door for number two I took once, but still very catching.

Even though it is not the absolute favorite of my travel photos, it is my favorite cottage at Gotland so far. A summer dream house.

The photo still do not make it justice, coming closer up on the front there is so many blooming flowers – old grandma ones.

So fairytale fabulous wouldn’t you say…?

So romantic and very charming with the red roses – which Gotland actually are known for having at a lot of houses – as well as the fields full of Poppies, but those are on the way to vanish nowadays.

Menorca is an eastern Balearic island with their main city named Mahon. There is the biggest harbor after Pearl Harbor and it is also one of Europe’s biggest natural harbors.

They say that Menorca is not as exploited as it’s sister islands Majorca and Ibiza, as well as not so much party-life going on. I don’t know if that is still true – if you know, tell us.

One very interesting fact about Mahon is that it is said that the recipe of the mayonnaise (one of our favorites!) once were born in this town and brought back to France after Louis-François-Armand du Plessis de Richelieu’s victory over the British at Mahon’s port in 1756.

Menorca is an absolute must travel destination for horse lovers like us, because the amount of horses per square kilometer is the highest in Europe! They have an own horse called Caballo Menorquin – the islands pride – locally bred black horses, which plays a very important role in the islands traditions and festivities.

We will definitely NOT miss the three days traditional summer fiesta, Festes de Sant Joan, in Ciutadella (I want to explore the old town, surrounded by the Contramurada and narrow streets), with sheep-bearing (!), parades, bonfires, riders, competitions and above all: it ends with fireworks.

Then we have the three B’s: Birds, Butterflies and Blooming flowers. Our favorite reasons for going to a special travel destination. To Menorca it would be ideal to go in April and May, to be able to see as many wild flowers (even Orchids) as possible.

I find it very interesting that some of the earliest culture on Menorca was influenced by – among other – the Minoans of ancient Crete (our honeymoon island). Early people of Menorca imitated inverted plastered timber columns at Knossos.

The Menorcan’s have a local favorite drink, the Pomada – Gin (influenced by the Brit’s) mixed with bitter lemon – that I would love to try out. I can imagine that it’s tasty when it’s hot temperatures.

I think I would like to go to Majorca once again and then from there take the ferry over to Menorca, exploring Menorca island as an (long) extension to the Majorca stay.
