A real travel postcard (which is so rare nowadays!), not an online one. A somewhat unusual written one, but oh, so brutally honest – and kind of fun…

Travel postcard from Florence (Firenze), Italy

I’ll try to translate the postcard correctly for you below, since it’s so hilarious in some parts, especially if you recognize some of your own travel experiences too!

Saluti da Firenze 21th of April

Buongiorno at you!

We’re now in the west worlds cultural center! Here are so much culture that we now are giving our feet some air at the hotel room. Even the hotel room is smelling culture, as an example: the heat is not working, light bulbs are missing and the fridge – the minibar – provides warm beer. To see some light in the room, we have to climb up at a shelf in the wall where we with a certain experience can manage to open two windows shutters and then we can see the sky! Otherwise everything is peace and joy.
Greetings A and G…

I can’t help laughing, even though it shouldn’t be like that. When will it ever change, the cheating charter agencies or hotel owners, with the announced standard when buying the trip…?

And even if you buy it to a discounted rate, it still should not be like that. Period.

Photo: Venice in Stockholm http://lifecruiser.org/archive/photo-venice-in-stockholm/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/photo-venice-in-stockholm/#comments Tue, 01 May 2012 18:41:51 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=10165 Venice is one of the travel destinations that is high up on our wish list to go, so naturally I loved this Venice picture enough to take a photo with my iPhone’s camera to show you.

Sweden, Stockholm Venice picture

Stockholm also has a lot of waterways, so no wonder it’s called the northern Venice. I guess we would feel completely at home in the real Venice the day we get there…

Many of my photos on this blog lately are from my iPhone, I really love how easy it is to send them to different social networks. Perfect for a travel blogger like me!

I was severe tempted to break into the display and take it out for a long roadtrip…

Sweden, Stockholm: shop scooter with bag - perfect for the traveler

If the weather was not so lousy here, that could have become more tempting than would be healthy for me…. lol…

Cruising is the Perfect Gift http://lifecruiser.org/archive/cruising-is-the-perfect-gift/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/cruising-is-the-perfect-gift/#comments Fri, 23 Mar 2012 18:20:28 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=6752 An Anniversary Cruise

Ten years ago, my brother and his wife spent their honeymoon cruising the western Mediterranean. It had been their first cruise experience. The ship carried them from the western coast of Italy to the colourful and bustling streets of Barcelona, and it had been the last serious holiday that they had taken together. Of course, there had been weekend getaways and miniature trips, short romps to the Alps to go skiing and quickie summer excursions to the Cote d’Azur, but for some reason they had not climbed back aboard a cruise ship. It made sense that their tenth anniversary should be spent cruising the eastern Mediterranean. There was symmetry to this plan. Tin and aluminium are the traditional symbols for a ten-year anniversary, but a cruise seemed like a far more romantic gift.

An Eastern Mediterranean Planner

His wife wanted to see Venice. All she talked about was the Basilica Di San Marco and paintings by Titian and Tintoretto. She did not care what type of cruise itinerary they mapped out. When he asked her if she wanted to visit the Greek Islands, all she said was that she had always dreamed of going to Venice. Lucky for her, their cruise departed from Venice. They had three days in that fairy-tale city. Needless to say, this was a fourteen-day sojourn, and they needed to plot a more thorough course through Europe. Eastern Mediterranean cruises focus on destinations like Athens, Croatia and Turkey. It is not uncommon for them to sail as far away as the Black Sea. He had read somewhere that Dubrovnik, Croatia, was an up and coming port. The tourists had finally discovered the magic of the city’s medieval architecture and pebbly shores, but not every cruise line stopped at Dubrovnik, so it was still somewhat undiscovered, or so the article said. When he mentioned it to his wife, all she wanted to know was what the weather was like in Venice in the spring, as packing has become her main priority.

Venice

Venice is difficult to describe. The place is nothing if not surreal. All the crumbling white architecture made him think of ornate wedding cake decorations. When the afternoon light shimmers off the canals, the buildings seem to sway and wobble. When this happens, you automatically wonder if you have just witnessed the city sink a little bit more.

His wife was happy. They spent the first day in the Piazza San Marco and the Gallerie dell’Accademia. They had an aperitivi and did some serious people watching on the Campo Santa Margherita. His wife is in control of the Venice itinerary. After that, it is my brothers turn to play tour guide.

World Dogs: Italian Bergamasco http://lifecruiser.org/archive/world-dogs-italian-bergamasco/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/world-dogs-italian-bergamasco/#comments Thu, 17 Nov 2011 20:58:51 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=5031 Going abroad you can meet a lot of interesting things, as the different dog breeds. Meet this incredible Italian Bergamasco herding dog – yes, it IS a dog, not a mopping tool (lol)!

world-dogs-italian-bergamasco-pile

They origin from the Italian Alps, near Bergamo – so no wonder they got an effective warming coat. The Bergamasco’s were used to move the sheep herds and was mentioned first in literature from the 18th century.

Though this Bergamasco in my photos I actually found in Stockholm. There is not a big number of them in Sweden, but they do exist even over here!

Always handsome Italians – even the dogs…

The 5 best winemaking countries in the world http://lifecruiser.org/archive/the-5-best-winemaking-countries-in-the-world/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/the-5-best-winemaking-countries-in-the-world/#comments Thu, 29 Sep 2011 15:25:32 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=4637 Wine is one of life’s greatest pleasures. There is nothing like escaping to enjoy a pleasant glass of red, white or rose in the sun with a good book. Finding the best wines in the world, though, is no walk in the park. If you’re planning on going on such a quest, get yourself some cheap holiday insurance and jet off to give your taste buds the time of their life.

Here are some places you might want to consider to sample some of the best wines in the world.

Italy

As every wine fan knows, some of the finest wines known to man are products of the beautiful Italian countryside. The sangiovese is perhaps the most famous grape in Italian wine production, with red wines such as the Chianti Classico and Montefalco Rosso delighting wine fans around the world. The vineyard at Villa Vignamaggio in Tuscany is one of notable quality and is well worth a visit.

France

France is another great wine-making region in Europe. The French take great pride, as with most things they do, in their wine production and have produced and, of course, are still producing wines to rival all others. Wines from the Bordeaux and Burgundy regions are perhaps the most famous and most loved French wines across the world. For some of the tastiest white wines you will ever set on your tongue, pay a visit to Sancerre or, for that matter, any of the vineyards in the Loire Valley region.

Spain

A pattern is emerging here. Yes, another European winemaking giant is Spain. It would be sacrilegious to leave Spain off this list, especially considering that it is currently the third biggest wine exporter in the world. Rioja, which is located in the north of the country, is a popular Spanish winemaking region across the globe. If you get a chance to visit Spain, make sure you sample some of the wines from the La Rioja Alta vineyard.

Australia

The Hunter Valley region in Australia is famous the world over for the quality of its wines and, precisely because of this quality, it is one of the largest exporters of wine in the world. New South Wales is home to some fantastic vineyards; Tyrell’s, in particular, is one of the most famous ones in the region. This vineyard has been family owned for almost a century and a half and still offers tours and opportunities to have picnics in the vines.

Chile

South America in itself is generally excellent for wine production, but Chile certainly stands out from the crowd. There are virtuoso winemakers to be found the entire length of the country, the majority of which are well and truly part of the international exportation business these days. Concha y Toro is perhaps the most famous wine to come out of Chile – the vineyard is located in the Maipo region of the country, which is probably one of the country’s most established regions for winemaking.

My sister is going to Venice http://lifecruiser.org/archive/my-sister-is-going-to-venice/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/my-sister-is-going-to-venice/#comments Tue, 21 Oct 2008 11:59:40 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=1316 This is just a short post, to say that my sister and nephew are flying to Venice today. If it’s any persons I really wish this for, it’s them. My sister haven’t been out traveling for years and they need to get out having some fun.

They’ve had really tough years behind them. Besides that, it’s my nephews birthday today, so they’ll celebrate that with a Venice by Night experience.

What’s even better is that they got this trip for free, she ordered some health stuff and got drawn as one of the lucky ones to receive free tickets! I am so happy for her.

It’s a group trip with sightseeing tours planned too. We’ll see how much they’ll manage to do in those few days, they’re back again on Friday.

Am I Jealous or am I just jealous? Venice is high up on my wish list to go!

Me? I’m still sorting and editing photos, have patience with me. You know I’m picky, so it takes some extra time.
