I still remember our 2007 Cyber Halloween Party – if you haven’t read about it earlier, I really recommend to click your way over there! It sure was fun!

Remember, there was a special drink: Boo (the barftender) recommended the Eyeballs On The Rocks!!!

…and for the really thirsty it was OK to order a whole Bloody Mary at once – the real Mary that would last for the whole evening and to be shared with ghoul friends. *giggles*

DRTW #5: Gin & Grape Tonic – Swedish Summer Classic Drink http://lifecruiser.org/archive/drtw-5-gin-grape-tonic-swedish-summer-classic-drink/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/drtw-5-gin-grape-tonic-swedish-summer-classic-drink/#comments Thu, 01 Oct 2009 12:49:06 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=2360 Welcome to the 5th international cocktail party meme: Drinks ‘Round the World, hosted by Lifecruiser Travel Blog & Travel Experta the 1st every month.

When seeing the Pastis earlier, what’s instantly comes up in mind is a simliar looking, very true Swedish classic summer drink: Gin & Grape Tonic. One of our own absolute favorites.

BTW: If you think the glass in the photo is a bit blurry, you haven’t had enough of drinks yet! Keep drinking until it’s perfectly clear to you! *giggles*

Drink Round The World Meme: Gin & Tonic Drink at Lifecruisers laptop, Sweden, Photo Copyright Lifecruiser.com

As a drink, it couldn’t be easier to make, a hot summer day when you feel very lazy!

Ingredients:

1 part of Gordon’s London Dry Gin
5 parts of Grape Tonic water
1 Lemon slice
Ice

What’s very important here is to choose a good Gin, it won’t do with any kind of Gin. We prefer Gordon’s London Dry Gin so far of the ones we’ve tested.

If you have tested Gin & Tonic before and didn’t like it: test with Grape Tonic (preferably in Sweden), it’s much better, promise!

Even though this is a kind of false Gin & Tonic, it’s still called just Gin & Tonic and it shares the same history as the original.

History of The Original Gin & Tonic:

This cocktail was introduced by the army of the British East India Company in India.

Tonic water contains quinine, which was used to prevent malaria. Because the tonic water consumed to prevent malaria in the 18th century was extremely bitter, gin was added to make it more palatable.[citation needed] The bitter flavor of quinine complements the green notes of gin (flavored with juniper) much like dry vermouth complements gin in a classic martini.

Although the consumption of tonic water currently has less medical use than it once did, gin and tonic remains a popular drink. Tonic water available today contains less quinine and is consequently less bitter (and is sometimes sweetened). Because of this connection to warmer climates and its refreshing nature, this cocktail is more popular during the warmer months.

Campari Drink at the farm, Fårö Island, Gotland, Sweden, Photo Copyright Lifecruiser.com

This drink might not look so interesting or exotic, but it has had such a great value for hubby and the farmer we use to stay at when we’re on our summer paradise island.

It’s an easy recipe: One fifth (or fourth if you want it more bitter) of Campari and fill up the rest of the glass with Schweppes Russchian (sorry if you don’t have that one in your country). Top with 2 icecubes.

Campari bottle, Fårö Island, Gotland, Sweden, Photo Copyright Lifecruiser.comSchweppes Russchian for the Campari Drink, Fårö Island, Gotland, Sweden, Photo Copyright Lifecruiser.com

It’s excellent as an aperitif before dinner, as it refreshes your taste buds.

They have had this drink together for many, many years now, so for them as well as for me now, it’s a kind of symbol for summer. We had the last one there a couple of days ago.

For us it will always represent the wonderful summer at Fårö, whatever happens in the future.

On the Campari bottles, you can read other drink recipes too, but in my opinion, those are all too bitter for my taste.

How suitable this drink are, right now. You see, this is a drink I had at the bar at Lauters at our summer paradise island Fårö last year. I will not tell you what it is in it, simply because I don’t remember! *giggles*

I do remember though that tomorrow, Thursday 2 July, we’re going to Fårö for 4 weeks!!!! I’m in the middle of the packing. The summer don’t really start until we’re going there.

Yes, we will have internet connection there, but if it’s hot weather, we’ll mostly be at Sweden’s best beaches playing with our toes in the warm sand…. or the Baltic Sea…. ah….

Drinks Round the World: The Rolls Royce of Sangrias http://lifecruiser.org/archive/drinks-round-the-world-the-rolls-royce-of-sangria/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/drinks-round-the-world-the-rolls-royce-of-sangria/#comments Sun, 31 May 2009 23:36:57 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=2061 Welcome to the 1st international cocktail party meme: Drinks ‘Round the World, hosted by Lifecruiser Travel Blog & Travel Experta the 1st every month.

I simply can’t resist to offer you my favorite drink of all: Sangria! The Spanish national drink? Well, at least for the tourists, but I don’t care, I love it anyway!

The best Sangria we’ve had ever, was the one a family at Cafeteria Sra Calendaria, Avenida Maritima, Corralejo, in the northern tip of Fuerteventura Island, Spain, served us every day while we were there several years ago.

We could clearly feel the difference from all the others we have tasted, this one was more rich of ingredients, kind of the Rolls Royce of Sangria’s, if you get what I mean.

(Not the one in the photo below)

Sangria, Tenerife, Photo Copyright Lifecruiser

One day when we already had been drinking almost a liter Sangria, the nice son in the family suddenly gave us another liter for free…. What to do? We didn’t want to be impolite of course, so we did drink more Sangria…

We tried to get the recipe, which wasn’t that simple, since we don’t speak Spanish and he didn’t speak much English plus the fact that we got too drunk and had to go home and have siesta. Ha ha.

We managed to get the ingredients at least, but you have to experiment to get the right taste. We have made it one time ourselves at home and came rather close, but didn’t write down the amount of everything.

Sangria Ingredients: Red wine, Brandy, Cointreau, Liquor 43, Banana liquor, Extra dry Triple Sec, Grenadine, sugar, oranges and apples. (I think that it might benefit to have some Cinnamon sticks in it too).

If you think it’s too strong, try to put in some 7-Up or any lemon-lime soda in it too.

- or simply try to drink less of it – but I guess that might be too difficult… *giggles*

Manzanilla rounds bounds http://lifecruiser.org/archive/manzanilla-rounds-bounds/ http://lifecruiser.org/archive/manzanilla-rounds-bounds/#comments Thu, 26 Feb 2009 12:46:00 +0000 Lifecruiser http://lifecruiser.org/?p=1829 Manzanilla barrels in Sanlucar by Lifecruiser
Manzanilla Aurora, Sanlucar, Spain, 2008.

The Manzanilla barrels are labeled Aurora, from the old distinguished Bodega Pedro Romero founded already in 1860 and run by the same family all this time.

Manzanilla is a rather delicate, dry sherry which is made and matured in Sanlucar de Barrameda in the South of Spain where we were a year ago.

When drinking Manzanilla, you better put up some bounds on your rounds with drinks, because it’s quite easy to get headaches from it… I say no more…. *giggles*

I’m glad I got tagged to show my 6th photo in my 6th folder on my computer, because it reminded me that I still have a lot to tell you about that 4620 km roadtrip to Spain!

A sale sign placed in the middle of no where up in the mountains in Tenerife Island in Spain, at about 3280 feet.

Absolutely nothing in the surroundings. I love it. I’m so weird. And I love that too. *giggles*

Boat reflections IMG_2656Theme: Reflection

I love the reflection above the most, since it’s both reflecting the bridge deck and my own shadow on the bridge deck, plus giving me an extra boat.

The photo below is a weird one – I can almost not tell what’s the boat and not, despite the fact that I was there and should remember.

Boat reflections IMG_2655

Both of those photos are taken in a harbor at Hurum half-island in Norway.

I love boating, it gives that special freedom feeling wouldn’t you say?
