 Green Thumb Sunday

We have a fellow traveler visiting! A green traveler. Since we’re not speaking the same language I can’t ask him where he comes from, but I don’t think that he origins from Sweden.

It would have been very interesting, I’m sure, to hear his stories about his long journey over here. Maybe all over the world, who knows…?

First I thought that I maybe could trace him. Very foolish. I don’t have that much time!!!

Do you know how many beetle (Coleoptera) species there are?
- About 350 000 and every day one or more new species are found!

At the photo above he seem to be pondering of where to go now in this big world. Me too would land somewhere nice like this soft rug, to rest before continuing my journey.

I think he is very handsome and look how he is looking at me ;-)

The fact is that I suspected that the beetle would be somehow a vermin because of it’s resemblance with the bark beetle (slightly, not the color though). Since I don’t wanna judge some one in advance (*s*) – I wanna be sure without any doubts.

    - and I don’t have a garden to protect any more, so I haven’t squooshed him as Melli suggested, instead we lifted him out. Maybe too bad for other gardeners…

this visitor, whoever he/she/it is, is very good looking. what a beautiful colour! actually, i read somewhere the other day that these insects (is that the right word?) are of a very dull colour but the surface of their bodies consists of thousands of little platelets that refract the light in a certain way, and thus they APPEAR iridescent.

I never was all that into bugs until I started gardening…now, I love looking at them (even the bad kind) — they’re so fascinating!

Are you sure that’s a beetle? Captain, its shining like metal. Could be a tiny spaceship come to pick up the most beautiful woman on earth. :)

The beetle is a pretty color. Reminds me of what we call June Bugs. I can’t imagine 350,000 different types of beetles. Entomologists must have secure jobs!

Whisper in his adorable little green and black ear words of wisdom: don’t come to Maui in the summer because it’s too hot.
No wonder he’s visiting you…he’s probably a very smart jet-set beetle who knows the right seasons to appear.
