Almost the same as the gross Silver fish head I showed last week. But there is some difference actually.
The Swedish word Gross is actually an old way to count:
1 dussin = 12 of anything
1 gross = 1 dussin dussin.
Clear? *giggles*
Gross is 12×12 = 144 is the right answer with other words.
Later on we just started to use the word gross for something that comes in a big amount, not precisely 144 things of something.
Grosshandel = Big volumes of merchandises, what you would call Wholesale I think.
So this is Gross in two meanings.

That´s gross to the max! LOL – the German word is “Grosshandel”, too and 12 is a “Duzent”.
Have I told you that I´ve been spending a wonderful time in Stockholm a few years ago? No? I did! And guess what? I considered eating FISH to be gross before! But than I tried some fresh Swedish fish and my new motto is “Hall dig frisk, ätt fisk” LOL

The term gross may mean:
* before deductions (brutto), e.g. gross domestic or national product, or gross profit or income. In this sense, it may appear, separated by a comma, following the noun it modifies, e.g., “earned two million dollars, gross”. Compare: net;
* flagrant, in criminal law or in tort law, e.g. gross indecency or gross negligence;
* Gross (unit), a counting unit equal to 144.
* in anatomical pathology, gross examination means identification of disease with the naked eye.
* In mysticism, the gross realm is the physical, bodily realm, as opposed to the subtle realm of mind, the causal realm of form, and the nondual.
* ‘Gross’ is also a slang term meaning ‘disgusting’ or ‘grotesque’
Though it doesn’t tell where and when and by whom this expressions were invented. Maybe I’ll have to do a research about that…. *lol*
Now my daughter would think pickled herring or actually herring of any type is “gross”. Actually there are so many things she considers “gross” I often wonder how she manages to get through a day. Then I think the messy state of her college dorm room is “gross”, especially when I had to go and pack it up.

FISH again!? LOL! You know… fish is one of my favorite foods… but you are giving it a really BAD name! I have to admit … this looks gross! (and gross!)

I will check it up right after dinner over here – and it’s not fish on the table today 
It looks like fresh fish filleted and that is a dish of the Philippines. They put vinegar and spices on it and put hot chillis and people eat it. I think it’s a tad gross but if you closs your eyes, it’s fine.

The fish don’t look gross to me.
There is some ambiguity in that above statement, but it applies. Gross (replace the ss with ß) in German means big, and in English it means, well, gross!
It’s really intriguing how one word can mean different things in different language!

I see though, that with your photo, you went with the more common meaning of Gross. LOL yeah fish heads are gross and the smell gross too!!!! Bleahhhhhh
