How on earth do people keep ponds in their gardens in proper order? It can’t just be retired gardeners that have ponds? How do people get the time to maintain them?

If you plan the pond properly from the beginning as easily maintained as possible, things gets easier, but it’s still a lot of work. Maybe there is some trick I don’t know of, especially in countries with cold winters, which demands some extra care before and after the winter.

It’s very peaceful to sit at a pond and pondering, which almost make it worth all the work I guess. There are a lot of animals around ponds that’s interesting. Especially frogs! I love them - totally cool guys ;-)

Ducks is drawn to ponds. Maybe it’s not just the water in it. Do you think that ducks can be romantic? *lol* Or even see and appreciate the water lilys in the pond?

    I can’t really think of any large ponds close to where I live; do people just let them freeze during the winter (if it gets cold enough), or do they have some way of keeping them warm? I’d say it’d kill the mood if they covered the pond up with one of those giant tarps like folks do with their pools.

    Lifecruiser: I think most of them will freeze and if the have fishes in the pond they take them in for the winter. No covering up for me either, doesn’t look good at all.

    PS: From all your greenery pics in the past, I’m assuming there’s massive loads of parks and gardens around Stockholm. That must be great…)

    Lifecruiser: No, quacking is not quite what I call romantic either…. *lol* You’re assuming right, even though my pics is mainly of the same ones. They say we have 38 parks in Stockholm and I don’t know how many gardens. A lot of small ones I guess, but the big ones there is just a handfull of. Too few actually.

    Gotcha’. :) Do you have fish in your pond? If so, where do you keep them inside over the winter? If you have a fairly large pond, that could be a lot of fish to handle over a winter…

    Lifecruiser: No pond of my own any longer, I had a minor one before without fishes just for that reason that I wouldn’t want to take them in for the winter. We’ll see if it’s any of the other that participates in Green Thumb Sunday that may have something to say about this matter.

    Nothing like a pond and water for giving a garden a new dimension. Our ‘pond’ at the moment just consists of a large ceramic bowl of water, white stones and a pump. Still, the sound of the water is very relaxing.

    Lifecruiser: Small or big, the relaxation from it is almost the same :-)

    I think ponds are like fish aquariums, you have to be constantly messing with them! I find it too much work! I would rather just look at the beauty of someone else’s! I do love to sit by a nice pond and ponder the reflections!

    Yes, I agree to that as you already know, too much work, but I really admire the ones that have one.

    OK, sometimes you have to mess a little with code. I noticed that if I want to center something, it mess up the code somehow. I haven’t experimented with it so much, got it working anyway. You can email me exactly what kind of problem you have and maybe I have some input about it :-)

    Sorry you have the same weather as here! We should have taken that lifeboat to the paradise island hah? *lol*

    The birthday party was an early afternoon one instead of the evening, perfect for us since we had that
    horrible parking problems. It’s always nice to celebrate!

    Lifecruiser: Of course! The ideal solution! How terrible practical… Like almost everything else now, not the real thing it only looks like it on the surface ;-)

    Lifecruiser: Me too- I’ve only had a small one for a while and that one took VERY MUCH of my time to maintain, probably not planned the best way either as the beginner at ponds I were.

    I agree, Debbie: fish aquariums are too much darn work. We had one for quite a while, but ultimately, we got tired of cleaning it out all the time. It’s amazing how filthy the tanks can get, so quickly, even when you have a good filter.

    Lifecruiser: Yes, I have that experience too. Especially if the sun gets to the aquarium! There are some tricks to aviod the worst, but it’s still too much work. Getting lazy here ;-)

    Lifecruiser: Awww, a waterfall! How gorgious it must be! I had a little mini-fountain in mine and it was so nice - the birds LOVED it too, kept the water cirkulating and more fresh. this particularly pondin the picture is in the Bergianska Garden here in Stockholm and I really don’t know, but I don’t think there are any fish - at least didn’t I see some.

    I love the lily blooms! So pretty! I haven’t had an outdoor pond … but when I had my lizards I had an indoor pond in their vivarium. Still … I think that larger and deeper ponds are easier to maintain- particularly in a cool climate. My brothers going to be putting one or two ponds into his backyard next year - hopefully he wont’ find maintaining them too difficult.

    Lifecruiser: Yes, aren’t they? Oh, that sounds interesting with the lizards indoors pond! *lol* Good, then you can report to us how his pond building goes :-)

    I would love to have a lovely pond, we used to have one but it got all green and smelly lol. We had a pump too and filter, but it just didn’t happen for us. Unlike the neighbours, they keep their pond beautiful, it really is gorgeous with plants, fish, lilypads etc.. Mind you, we must have done something right, all 8 fish survived 4 years lol!

    Lifecruiser: Yes, and it sure takes a lot of work to get it going and it’s a never ending work, phew!
