The Fuerteventura Dream
This is what we’re dreaming of now, when the weather here is very grey and rainy and the snow nibble us in the heels…. Fuerteventura is one of the Canarian Islands in Spain, near Africa. There are many beaches with very fine sand and one area, Parque Natural (Dunas de Corralejo) El Jablo looks like a desert, filled with sand from Sahara.
And we’re stuck here. It’s not fair. I hate snow.
*heavy sigh*

You know, I must really have a high geek score. When I dream of vacations or places I’d be happy, it’s never on a sandy beach with the sun and ocean as my companions. A few places that *do* come to my mind as places I’d love to be:

    1. A giant library. It needs a bit more than just lots of books, though. It’d need a decent computer with high-speed internet, as well as lots of paper, pens, pencils etc. No good having the world’s largest library without the ability to 1) blog / journal about what you’re reading and 2) take notes about what you’re reading! It’d also need a big cozy room complete with a comfortable couch, writing table, and fireplace. That’d be heaven…

    2) New Zealand. I can’t help it; even though I know they used quite a bit of CGI to alter the landscape, I STILL have a strong desire to visit Middle-Earth on Earth. Who knows, I might get lucky and meet a hobbit.

    3) Germany / Iceland / Denmark / Norway / Sweden. Any of those would do. The colder the better. :)

I just really don’t have much love for sandy beaches, etc.

Lifecruiser: Well, you know, maybe you would have if you were born in cold Sweden ;-)
OK, the geek score is high here too. I would like to have that giant library at home, so I don’t need to go out in the cold and snowy weather in the winter…. Fireplace sounds heavenly yes…
I could go to New Zeeland and the others too. Love to travel. But not LIVE there.
We love the sea, both of us and with it the beaches kinda comes naturally ;-)

I like the ocean / sea alright, but I’m more interested in it as a boating area (particularly Viking boats!) Swimming? Eh… not too fond of it. And sitting in the sun all day, turning into a lobster? No thanks.

BTW, about the being born in cold Sweden…. nah, I’d still hate hot weather, particularly hot, SUNNY weather. I’m one of those people who sweats profusely just from looking outside. :)

I’d love being in a place where it’s cold all the time.

Lifecruiser: OK, I’ll actually understand that, I’m not villing to turn into a lobster myself *lol*, but I do like to stroll on the beach and doing other things. Not all day. And we have to consider the fact that I’m OLD. My old body don’t like the cold… Maybe we could switch places? *lol*

Where in Sweden are you? You picked a bad time to switch with me if you’re wanting to switch for the weather. The temperature has just recently started dropping. The past few days, it’s been cold and damp. Probably not as cold as Sweden, but chilly enough.

We’re in Stockholm, the capital, just above the center of Sweden, on the east coast. Actually we’ve had an unusually mild autumn over here, as we had an extremely warm summer. Normally we would have the first light snow by now. Eeek, that weather of yours sounds not enough good! We’ll have to move somewhere else :-)

Yeah, we had a really hot summer, and fall has taken its sweet time in starting. A lot of people are saying we’re going to have a really bad winter here.

Personally, I’m looking forward to it. The harsher the winter, the more reason I have to stay cooped up inside with my books.

Lifecruiser: Brrr…. Maybe you should actually live in the Antarktis? *lol* It must be nice feeling like that, for me it’s obviously the opposite :-)

Good night, sweet icy dreams…. *lol*

It seems we dream of what we do not have! I live less than 1 km from the beach (don’t hate me!!) so my pic today is very different from yours! Wishing you a terrific weekend

Beautiful beach. Definitely a place to dream of in the middle of winter. Come January or February I’ll be dreaming of a place like this, but for now, I’m enjoying the beautiful Munich autumn weather.

    Have a good weekend.

Lifecruiser: Ah, for me, it’s now. I don’t like autumn either, it’s too much bad weather windy and rainy. enjoy your weekend you too!

This is true ! I also have been there but unfortunately that year was unusually bad weather but not all the time and the beaches are wonderful !

Lifecruiser: It wasn’t that hot when we were there either, it was early in the spring and they have had a unusually bad winter, so it was just enough sun and heat, not too hot :-)

I prefer cooler climates too. I’m not one for hot sun and sandy beaches. I prefer to visit places like Norway/Denmark/Switzerland etc.. In fact I’d like to go to Iceland one day too.

But that does look like a lovely picture with the palm tree. We’re all different of course, so you enjoy your dreams Mrs Lifecruiser, you deserve it :=)

    Mandy x

Lifecruiser: Uhum, you forgot to mention SWEDEN - the most important ;-) The problem with this weather is not as much the snow, as the darkness (for other Swedes than me). We get very tired of the dark, it’s not many hours with light, so no wonder so many people are depressed… They even have light therapy for depressed persons.

Lifecruiser: Yes, we did miss you! Oh, painting - maybe you should paint a tropical beach and throw out some sand? *lol*

A very pretty beach Mrs. L. But I still prefer the mountains for my place of dreaming! I guess living in Florida for so many years has made me not really enjoy the beach.

But given your harsh winter I can see why the tropics would be so appealing to you! Enjoy your dream and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Lifecruiser: I guess I would think the same if I had lived in Florida. I don’t want to live there, just go on vacation. But I could think of living in some other place where there is no snow in the winters, not necessary that hot :-)

Spain and Greece if in Europe or somewhere else. We just haven’t finished with the researching yet ;-)

One grand thing about the states…we moved from Illinois…snow…to here in the South…Georgia..NO SNOW..I don’t like snow either…My picture is up too but I took dreaming in a completely different direction which you will see if you visit today..Yes it is me in the pictures…Ha!! Sandy

Lifecruiser: Yes, and even most of the states that have snow, seems to have shorter winters than we have here. It’s to little with only 2,5 months with decent weather/year!!!! And the darkness. Hu!

I’ll hurry over to check you out :-)

Lifecruiser: I wanna switch with you! We’re having much warmer than usual, thank god, so we’re having 11°C = 52°F, but it won’t last for long now ;-(

This looks like the beach in Florida where I grew up. Only there the sand was white and there were no hills. And the weather was warm all winter and hot in the summer and after forty years it became very monotinous. “Just another day in paradise”. I left for cooler climes. A fifteen year stop in Baltimore to find the love of my life and then a move to our vacation spot in the mountains. Now when we can tear ourselves away from Groundhog Mountain we vacation in (where else?) Florida.

Lifecruiser: Yes, I suppose there can be too much of the sun, just as it can be too much of the cold, like here - just the opposite situations! I wanna be in the middle :-)

Very dreamy. I like visiting the ocean but prefer to keep it to a visit. I don’t like hurricanes and I love snow.

Lifecruiser: I don’t like hurricanes either, so I wouldn’t like to live in those areas, as much as other warmer without snow. There can be a winter, just not with snow and not this long as we have in this country!

Gosh, do we have to choose between beaches and mountains, heat and cold, snow and sand? It’s such a big, beautiful world. I haven’t found many places in it (as much as I’ve seen of it) that I didn’t find really nice. But if it were cold every day, I, too, would be dreaming of the beach.

Lifecruiser: No, not choose, all is beautiful somehow. Snow here in Stockholm is seldom beautiful, it’s slush and dirty, very gray clouds, dampness too and windy, the worst combination. Brrrr.

Wow, we had our first snow a month ago and our mountain tops are white as could be…I love snow! But, as you said, I did not grow up with it so that probably makes a difference. It’s something I appreciate now.

I do enjoy beaches but only every few years or so. Even then, the creatures of the sea ook me out far more than bears or mountain lions.

Lifecruiser: Luckily we are different all of us, otherwise it could get crowded at the beaches and empty in the mountains - or the opposite ;-)

This is an area I don’t think many Americans visit, but I’ve loved the blog entries by Europeans who have vacationed there. Sounds lovely.

BTW are you using comment-plugger to list the commenters on your site? If you are, how did you get it to say “and” just before the last posters name?

Lifecruiser: Thanks Tricia. wouldn’ it be nice? At least for a while…. *dreaming* No, I’m using the WP-Plugin CA-Credits for the comments lists and the “and” is coming with the default setup.
